“Amos and I” The Unique Contributions of a Father:
Doreen had an epiphany. After twenty-plus years of journaling, scribing short stories, plays, and poems, she realized many of her writings were inspired by her relationship with her father. She realized that having the presence of her imperfect, yet passionate and active father, shaped her to be the woman she is today. Amos and I illustrates the unique contributions fathers sow into the lives of their children. It empowers mothers to assist with fostering a positive relationship between their children and their father, whether or not they are together as a couple. It also, motivates fathers to build their legacy by fully engaging with the children from the time of birth and throughout adulthood, while encouraging women and me to honor their father and recognize the impact of their presence in their lives.
Doreen uses transparent life stories paired with her unique perspective as a daughter and professional mental health counselor, making this an enlightening and interpersonal read. She paints pictures of her father’s impact with honesty and love. Doreen recognizes his good qualities and flaws while honoring his legacy.
